Digital Products: CD ROM, DVD or PDF

The CD ROMs or DVDs I produce for clients contain sophisticated layouts and a user-friendly interface that leave no navigational dead-ends or frustrating user experience. My CDs are fully hyperlinked, cross-referenced, and searchable. We produce conference CD ROMs/DVDs, special publications in book format, and stand-alone reports in PDF format.

For my longer-term clients (such as the Gulf Coast Section SEPM Foundation) you can see my products evolve yearly, along with the Adobe Acrobat technology. Moving from the year 2005 to year 2014, an increase in complexity and usability is evident in my CDs.

Project profiles can be found behind each of the blue tabs above. To obtain a specific CD publication for closer inspection, contact me for free samples. In addition, you may also download sample papers, chapters, or indexes from my Downloads page.

General

I have been producing the Gulf Coast Section SEPM Foundation publications since 1997—first in traditional hard copy format, then in digital (PDF) format on CD ROM, and now on DVD. This organization has been at the forefront of digital publications in the oil and gas industry, and continues to set the standard. All the publications listed below can be purchased through the Bureau of Economic Geology, Austin, Texas, or through their parent organization, the SEPM.

The Gulf Coast Section SEPM conferences are set for December of each year and are always held in Houston, Texas. The 2012 conference planning is underway, and its profile will be presented here after the conference is over. The topic for the 2012 conference is "New Understanding of the Petroleum Systems of Continental Margins of the World."

Click on the headings below to see an overview of that year's conference CD.

2014
2014 CD Label

2014 was the 33rd Annual GCSSEPM conference. This 445-page volume had 46 technical papers and poster sessions, including 20 student posters submitted to the GCSSEPM Student Poster Contest. The three-day conference was themed "Sedimentary Basins: Origin, Depositional Histories, and Petroleum Systems."

2012 Front Insert

2012 was the 32nd Annual GCSSEPM conference. This 816-page volume had 36 technical papers and poster sessions. The three-day conference was themed "New Understanding of the Petroleum Systems of Continental Margins of the World."

2010 CD label
GCSSEPM2011

2011 was the 31st Annual GCSSEPM conference. This 865-page volume had 34 technical papers and poster sessions. The three-day conference was themed as "Attributes: New Views on Seismic Imaging—Their Use in Exploration and Production."

2010
2010 CD label
2010 GCSSEPM

2010 was the 30th Annual GCSSEPM conference. This 728-page volume had 34 technical papers and poster sessions. The three-day conference was themed as "Seismic Imaging of Depositional and Geomorphic Systems."

2009
2009 CD label
2009 Start image

This 546-page volume had 24 technical papers and poster sessions. The two-day conference and shorter publication reflected the still-struggling economy and careful spending on the part of the petroleum industry and academia.

In 2013 and 2014, I produced two conference proceedings on CD ROM for tobacco industry organizations. In 2013 (left image above), the conference was the 67th Annual Tobacco Science Research Conference, and was entitled "Constituent Lists: Reshaping Tobacco Science." In 2014 (right image above), the conference was the 46th Annual Tobacco Workers' Conference, which was focused on tobacco worker health and safety, and prevention and eradication of tobacco crop diseases.

General

The Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies is the parent organization of 18 local geological societies throughout the Gulf Coast region. The parent organization gathers once a year to hold a geological conference, rotating the location between member society cities.

Each GCAGS publication presented here can be purchased through the Bureau of Economic Geology, Austin, Texas. Click on the headings below to see an overview of that year's conference CD.

2005
label front

2005 was the year of Hurricane Katrina...and this year, the GCAGS conference was scheduled for New Orleans. The hurricane struck just a few weeks before the conference was to begin, effectively cancelling the event.

By this time, however, the entire publication was already completed and ready to go into production. The CD was released for sale after the fact, in February 2006, as a digital record of the research prepared for this conference. This publication consists of 109 technical papers and abstracts, comprising 923 pages. It is offered for sale through the Bureau of Economic Geology, Austin, Texas.

2004

In 2004 the GCAGS Transactions had 78 technical papers and abstracts, totalling 774 pages. Standard to my CD ROM projects, this volume has

  • Help and Tips files to get you going quickly in Acrobat Reader
  • an interactive Start page (above right) with pop-up descriptors for each button
  • a hyperlinked Author Index, containing an alphabetized list of all contributing authors
  • non-printing navigational buttons on every page.
2002
authorindex

This conference CD consisted of 105 technical papers and 51 abstracts, totalling 1130 pages. New features this year included:

  • an interactive Start page for the entire CD with pop-up descriptors for each button
  • a hyperlinked Author Index (above right), containing an alphabetized list of all contributing authors
  • non-printing navigational buttons on every page
  • a "return to previous view" arrow by each figure, enabling a jump back to the text.
2000
start

2000 was the first year that the GCAGS convention delivered their Transactions on CD ROM—and they entrusted Bergan et al. for the job. This conference publication comprised 886 pages of submissions from 108 authors, 60 advertisers, and two technical editors. Both digital and hard copy (offset press) versions of this publication were produced. The CD ROM features:

  • hyperlinked figures and tables for easy navigation
  • user-friendly Start file (above right)
  • full-text Search capabilities
  • autostart programming.

Introduction to the Petroleum Geology of Deepwater Settings

by Paul Weimer and Roger M. Slatt

American Association of Petroleum Geology Studies in Geology 57, offered for sale through the AAPG Bookstore, Spring 2007.

An 860-page digital book consisting of 16 chapters and a Master Reference List.

In the bookmarks list, each chapter is accessible without returning to the TOC, and bookmark colors give you a "you are here" indication. Clicking on Chapter 1 (below left) expands its bookmarks (blue); clicking on Chapter 3 (below right) expands its bookmarks and collapses all others (black).

Bob F. Perkins Memorial Volume, GCSSEPM Foundation, 2003

This publication honors the life and service of Dr. Bob F. Perkins, a prominent geoscientist, paleontologist, and educator. The 374-page book contains contributions from world-renowned Cretaceous paleontologists and paleoecologists. For this publication, I created four indexes:

  • a hyperlinked subject index (right, top)
  • a hyperlinked taxonomic (fossil) index (right, bottom)
  • my standard author index
  • my standard full-text search index of the entire CD ROM.

Deep-Water Core Workshop, 2002

This Deep-Water Core Workshop was held during the 2002 AAPG Conference in Houston, Texas. The digital publication was sponsored by the GCSSEPM Foundation. Six technical presentations were prepared, totaling 92 pages and 75 high-resolution images.

Approximately every 10 years, the New Orleans Geological Society publishes an update to their volume: "Oil & Gas Fields of South Louisiana." In 2010 I was awarded the project, and the decision was made to produce both CD ROM and hard copy versions of the publication. An Introduction and papers profiling 27 fields were included in the publication, for a total of 310 pages. The publication can be purchased for $75 plus tax by contacting the New Orleans Geological Society.
